Room 17

Year 3/4 – Ms Melanie Bouverie

Welcome to the Year 3/4 classroom for 2020! Room 17 is a positive learning environment where we nurture the individual needs of every student as well as encourage resilience and self-regulation. We will be learning from the Year 3 and Year 4 curriculum with daily Literacy and Numeracy blocks in addition to weekly specialist subjects including Humanities and Social Sciences, Music, Digital Technologies, Design and Technology.

At Cassia Primary School, we implement the Gradual Release Model of ? I Do?, ? We Do? and ? You Do?. The students in Room 17 will be provided with many opportunities to learn and practice the Year 3 and Year 4 curriculum content.

Each morning we will begin with a Literacy block focusing on spelling, grammar and reading. The students? literacy learning will be supported by the Talk for Writing and Reading programs and teaching will be via Explicit Direct Instruction. Handwriting will be embedded in their writing tasks with joined writing across both Year groups.

Numeracy blocks will also take place daily and include Warm Ups and Gradual Release through Explicit Direct Instruction. We will focus on concepts from Number, Measurement and Statistics. We will be consolidating the Year 3 and Year 4 curriculum content with hands-on activities and real-world examples of concepts taught during Numeracy. The students will have weekly in class opportunity to revise the concepts of the week on the Mathletics program.

To supplement what we are learning in class, home readers will be sent home at the beginning of each week to support Literacy development. Students will also have access to Mathletics from home to practice and consolidate concepts being taught in school.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year in Room 17.
