Kindergarten – Ms Carla Pracilio and Mrs Allanah McNaboe
Welcome to Kindergarten at Cassia Primary School. My name is Carla Pracilio, and I am the Kindergarten teacher in Room 2. I am from Perth, where I obtained my Early Childhood Education Degree. I have taught Early Childhood Education both nationally and internationally, and believe children develop at their own rate, and are life-long learners. I believe children learn through holistic learning experiences that integrate socio-emotional, physical and cognitive development within an environment encouraging play, discovery, exploration, curiosity and a sense of wonder.
During Term 1 in Literacy, the children will be learning to recognise and write their name. We will be involved in the, ‘Writing in the Sand,’ programme to develop pre-writing movements. We will also learn 2 and 3 syllable words, initial sounds, letter sound recognition, pre-reading skills and be involved in oral language activities.
In Numeracy, we will be learning colour, number recognition, sequential counting, one to one correspondence, sorting, classifying, subitising and 2D shape recognition.
Other important skills we will be learning in Kindergarten are:
Social skills – playing nicely with friends, sharing, turn taking.
Regulating emotions and behaviours, understand and learn to express feelings.
Independence, resiliency, co-operation.
Thinking skills and problem solving.
Fine motor development, gross motor development.
Self- help skills – looking after personal belongings, washing hands, personal hygiene.
Well-being – health, nutrition, exercise, rest.
We welcome you all to the 2021 school year and we look forward to sharing our Kindergarten adventure with your child and you!
