Special Programs - Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) – Miss Lisa Fawell

Welcome to Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program (SAKG) and 2019. My name is Lisa Fawell and I will be teaching SAKG to rooms 3-12.

This term in SAKG we will be working in the areas of gardening, cooking and technology. We will be planting a variety of seedlings in order to produce crops that we can harvest and cook with. In our cooking lessons we will be learning food handling and safe cooking practices such as knife skills. We will be using produce from our garden and cooking wholesome foods. I will encourage students to taste everything we cook. Our technology focus for the Semester is Materials Specialisations where we will look at the properties of different materials and use the design, make, evaluate pattern to show what we have learnt.

I would love to have parent helpers in the classroom and encourage you to contact me if you can assist. Any help in the garden is also greatly encouraged and even a quick stop to pull some weeds or tend to some trimming would be super.

At Cassia we participate in Crunch and Sip and the scraps from this time are collected and added to our compost bins. We are a Waste Wise school and have a Waste Wise committee that meets throughout the term to discuss and plan for continuous improvement in this area.

If you have any questions or ideas please do not hesitate to contact me either by email lisa.fawell@education.wa.edu.au  or by contacting the school on 9172 2495.
