Special Programs - STEM

STEM - Mr Jeremy Kane

STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Rather than teach them separately, STEM combines the knowledge and skills from these areas and uses them to investigate and solve real-world problems.

STEM also provides a great opportunity for creative and critical thinking, using ICT, team work and problem solving. In a world where the future occupations of our current students haven’t been invented yet, developing skills that can be applied to all professions is vitally important.

My role as STEM Co-ordinator is to assist classroom teachers to plan and deliver STEM projects in their classrooms. In 2018 we have tackled the following topics:

- Quiet and loud noises (Kindergarten)

- Transporting water (Pre-primary)

- Growing plants (Year 1)

- Robotics (Year 2 & Year 5)

- Keeping lunches cool (Year 3)

- Honey bees (Year 4)

- Solar energy (Year 6)
