Staff & Students - Room 12

Room 12 - Year 2 - Mrs Bianca Reynolds

Welcome to all our families, friends and community to Room 12 in 2019. We have started this year by getting to know one another, the routines, class rules and Cassia’s behaviour expectations that we will have in place for the entire year. Homework will be sent home at the beginning of each week and needs to be brought back in on the last day of each week. Students will take home readers home to support literacy development and have access to Mathletics, using their login details they can complete some activities at home and share concepts that they have been practicing in school.

As a whole school approach, we are continuing the Talk for Writing program starting with a wishing tale called “The King’s Beard”. We will also be looking at imaginative and informative text types, utilising the skills and toolkits from the ‘Talk for Writing’ program for continued development in writing skills, including sentence structure, grammar and vocabulary.

This term we are focussing on developing an understanding of place value from counting numbers to 100 to over 1 000, this is a complex skill, taking time and focus to accomplish. We will continue number patterns through skip counting, starting with 2’s 5’s and 10’s. Room 12 will be learning more about 2 dimensional shapes and their features. We will also be learning about informal units to measure length and develop our knowledge of time focussing on the hour and half past to begin with.

We are focussing on how technology has changed over time- such as what technology we use now compared to when Mrs Reynolds was at school. This will lead into how other objects have changed over time and students will complete a range of hands on activities to support their understanding.

At Cassia Primary School we use Seesaw and the Skoolbag app to keep you up to date with announcements and what we have been doing in the class. Room 12 have been learning how to upload our own work to Seesaw and I will endeavour to keep you updated so that you can see some of the amazing work and activities that we are doing. If you would like to discuss the progress of your child, please contact myself or the office and I will call to arrange an interview as soon as possible.

Looking forward to a productive and exciting year with Room 12.
