Staff & Students - Room 20

Room 20 Mr David Howell

My name is David Howell and I have the pleasure of teaching the wonderful Year Five and Six students in Room 20. Being in Year Five or Six is an exciting time for students with lots of events happening.  For our Year Six students we have camp and graduation, and our Year Five students begin to take on school leadership roles.

Our Literacy block will be taking place Monday to Thursday in the first two hours of the day.  Students will be switching between Rooms 19, 20 and 21 for the first 25 minutes to participate in the Diana Rigg (PLD) spelling program. They will then return to class for Guided Reading and Writing sessions.

Numeracy block will take place between recess and lunch, with each session commencing with a focus on increasing students’ recall of basic number facts and developing their mental maths strategies. In Number we will be focussing on developing mental and written strategies to solve complex problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and using fractions and decimals. In Measurement and Geometry, we will be constructing and learning to identify the properties of 3D shapes. In Statistics and Probability, we will be conducting chance experiments with both small and large numbers, describing outcomes using fractions, decimals and percentages and observing frequencies.

As part of HASS, students will be studying History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship and Business and Economics. This year they will also be studying Digital Technologies and Design and Technology.
