Room 15

Year 3 – Miss Vicky Li

Hello and welcome to Room 15! My name is Vicky Li and I am teaching Year Three, with assistance from AIEO, Shann Moody in 2021.

We are now over halfway through the school year and this term, we are learning about a variety of topics. 

For Literacy, we will be using the whole school Talk 4 Writing and Reading programs. We are currently looking at portal tales and using similes and metaphors to enhance descriptions in our writing. Diana Rigg’s PLD phonics program has been implemented to place students into targeted spelling groups so they are taught the appropriate phonics for their level. 

It has been pleasing to see so many students embrace Cassia’s whole school reading program. The enthusiasm for reading so many students now have is brilliant. 

In Numeracy, we are using the Prime Mathematics program to deliver content, practice and assessment. We have been learning about effective ways to add, subtract and multiply numbers with and without grouping and will also cover Chance Experiments, Money and Time units this term. 

At Cassia Primary School, the teaching strategy of Explicit Direct Instruction is used to support our students’ learning and mastery of new concepts. Cues and prompts and routinely checking for student understanding are used for student engagement and effective and immediate feedback help to support students better. 

For Health, students will continue identifying appropriate actions and behaviours that promote health, safety and wellbeing. They will also look at how emotional responses vary in different situations and practise identifying behaviours that support positive relationships. 

In Technologies, we will keep exploring the purpose of digital systems and peripheral devices Students will identify the roles people in design and technology have on the community and investigate the design development process of products, services and environments. 

In HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences), students are investigating Australia’s neighbouring countries and the different climatic zones of the world in geography. Students will also take part in the subjects Art, Science and Music with specialist teachers at the school. 

Students in Room 15 are working hard to demonstrate Cassia’s Positive Behaviour Focus of ‘We are Resilient’ by keeping a positive and persistent attitude to all tasks in class as well as being mindful of the actions we choose with our peers and the consequences that can arise.
