Room 15

Year 3 – Miss Vicky Li & Ms Shann Moody

Hello and welcome to Room 15! My name is Vicky Li and I will be teaching Year 3,  with assistance from AIEO, Shann Moody in 2021. I finished my Primary Education studies at Curtin University last year which makes this my first official year in the classroom. I was lucky enough to complete my final practicum at Cassia and am now kickstarting my teaching career at the school. I am really looking forward to the year ahead and endeavour to support every student in my class the best I can, finding every reason for them to shine.

For Literacy, we will be using the whole school Talk 4 Writing and Reading programs to learn about poetry, fiction and non-fiction texts. Diana Rigg’s PLD phonics program will be used to place students into targeted spelling groups so they can be taught the appropriate phonics for their level and further enhance their writing and reading skills.

This year, Cassia has introduced a whole school reading program which I am excited about to encourage students and ignite their love of reading.

In Numeracy, we will be using the Prime Mathematics program to deliver content, practice and assessment. Students will spend time learning efficient strategies to problem solve and build on their maths abilities. They will learn how to recall addition and multiplication facts for single-digit numbers and recognise the connections between addition and multiplication. Students will learn to use metric units for length, mass and capacity and how to tell the time to the nearest minute. They’ll learn about matching positions on maps and identifying symmetry in their environment as well as conduct chance experiments and simple data investigations to learn how to interpret, compare and list possible outcomes.

In HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences), students will begin to identify the importance of rules and democratic processes in civics and citizenship. They will investigate Australia’s neighbouring countries and the different climatic zones of the world in geography and identify the contributions of different cultural groups and look at the different days of significance all around the world in history.

For Health, students will be identifying appropriate actions and behaviours that promote health, safety and wellbeing. They will also learn how to describe how emotional responses vary in different situations and how certain behaviours support positive relationships.

In Technologies, we will explore the purpose of digital systems and peripheral devices. Students will be identifying the roles people in design and technology have on the community and investigate the design development process of products, services and environments.

Students will also take part in the subjects Art, Science and Music with specialist teachers at the school.

If you wish to see me about anything, feel free to pop in before or after school or arrange a time to have a chat. I would be more than happy to keep you informed with how your child is progressing in class. It’s going to be a busy and exciting year!
